Removing a wasp nest yourself?
Trying to remove a wasp nest yourself is absolutely not recommended. First of all, you will need protective clothing, like a beekeeper suit and beekeeper gloves. And not knowing what things to take in to account in removal of a wasp nest, increases the chances of getting you into more trouble.
When removing a wasp nest when there are still workers flying outside, you get orphaned wasps that will be quickly annoyed and more likely to sting than when they can calmly move around their nest.

On the other hand, there’s the fact that these insecticides are not just harmful for wasps, but for many other animals. The question is whether you would want that.

De alternatieven voor verwijderen
Vooropgesteld: in veel situaties kan een wespennest gerust blijven zitten en hoef je het niet te laten verwijderen of bestrijden. Bij veel aanvragen voor hulp of advies bij wespennesten komen we in het eerste contact met de melder al samen tot de conclusie dat er geen risico is en het wespennest kan blijven zitten.
Blijkt dat een nest toch een risico oplevert, dan zijn er twee alternatieven:
- Laten zitten en maatregelen nemen om het risico te beperken;
- Het wespennest verplaatsen.
Verplaatsen is een vorm van verwijderen, maar dan wel een waarbij de wespen blijven leven en hun nuttige functie kunnen blijven uitoefenen. Bij de gangbare verwijdering van wespennesten vinden deze fascinerende diertjes vrijwel altijd de dood.
En dat kan jij dus voorkomen.
